More Eastern Iowa employers planning to hire than in July

A survey of 65 Eastern Iowa employers by Cedar Rapids-based Cambridge Staffing shows more planning to hire additional workers in the first three months of 2012 and the number of hires significantly higher than they predicted in July.

Sixty-three percent of the companies surveyed in December are planning to hire in the quarter that ends March 31, compared with 48 percent in the previous Cambridge Staffing survey conducted in June and reported in July. Seventy-three percent of the manufacturers surveyed plan to hire and 52 percent of service companies expect to expand employment.

Employers in Cedar Rapids, Iowa City and the Iowa Quad Cities plan to hire 279 new employees in the current quarter, up 57 percent from the last survey when businesses said they were going to add 178 employees.
