Southwest Airlines on Friday announced that it will eventually serve Des Moines International Airport as it converts AirTran Airways operations at 22 domestic and international airports to Southwest operations.
No date for the conversion in Des Moines was provided. Of the 69 cities AirTran served when Southwest acquired it, 53 cities ultimately will be converted to full Southwest Airlines service.
Southwest acquired AirTran on May 2. AirTran service and employees at the 53 airports will convert to Southwest gradually over the course of AirTran's integration into the Dallas-based airline.
