XL Pipeline not worth risk of accidents
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Feb. 2, 2012 11:56 pm
Concerning the pro and cons of the Keystone XL Pipeline project that TransCanada has proposed to carry a volatile raw bitumen from tar sands strip mines and drill sites in Alberta:
We have a natural resource under eight states called the Ogallala Aquifer. This pipeline would cross this aquifer and would carry crude oil to Texas refineries.
I researched the importance of the Ogallala Aquifer and the lenient requirements of the pipeline industry to prevent accidents. I am glad that President Obama has decided not to approve this project. It is not worth a catastrophic accident that would endanger our water and food supply. Move forward with alternative renewable energy resources. Let's not sell our beautiful country short.
