Lawmakers must let DNR handle lake speeds
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Dear Sen. Liz Mathis: The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has recommended and publicly supported the elimination of the summertime horsepower restriction on Lake Macbride in favor of the more enforceable state standard of “no wake” for all boats all year long.
Why doesn't the state legislature let the DNR do its job? Why does it continue to interfere when it comes to Lake Macbride? Would you please visit with the interim subcommittee co-chairs and find out what is going on? Why are they reluctant to bring it to the floor for a full vote?
I thought the Senate Majority Leader promised to allow a vote this year.
