Plasma arc furnace could eliminate recycling
The Gazette Opinion Staff

Referring to Steve Gravelle's article in the Feb. 8 Gazette titled, “Marion looking for more trash.” Marion's attorneys are still negotiating a 25 year contract with Plasma Power. The system will need 250 tons per day of waste. Marion can only supply 100 tons per day. Obviously the push will be for Cedar Rapids to also sign onto the contract.
If the plasma arc waste disposal furnace, operating at 10,832 degrees Fahrenheit, atomizes everything from dirty baby diapers to steel and glass, why does Cedar Rapids households need to separate our waste into Garbys, Curbys, Yardys and buckets.
