Howell not interested in boys' job at Washington

CEDAR RAPIDS -- Frank Howell said Monday he will likely pass on applying for the boys' basketball coaching job at Cedar Rapids Washington."I don't think I have any interest," Howell said. "I see it as a lateral move."The vacancy arose Friday, when Brad Metzger announced his resignation as boys' basketball coach. He took the Warriors to state twice in his four years, but suffered through a winless campaign last winter.Howell has coached the Washington girls' program for nine successful seasons, posting a record of 161-54. In 18 years overall, he is 282-143, winning a Class 2A state championship at Audubon in 1999.At Washington, Howell has taken five girls' teams to state, earning runner-up honors in Class 4A in 2005, 2006 and 2008.This year's team went 14-8. The Warriors return 56 percent of their scoring for the 2012-13 season, including leading scorer Danielle Franklin.
