Former Wash standout Washpun exits Tennessee

Mar. 26, 2012 3:24 pm
Former Cedar Rapids Washington standout guard Wes Washpun has been granted a release from his basketball scholarship at Tennessee, Vols Coach Cuonzo Martin announced Monday.
Washpun averaged 10 minutes per game as a backup point guard this season as a freshman. He scored 16 points in 17 games.
Washpun was a first-team all-stater in Class 4A last year for Washington. His final choice came down to Tennessee and Iowa, picking the Volunteers as Martin's first recruit as coach in Knoxville.
Martin also had recruited him as head coach at Missouri State.
"We wish nothing but the best for Wes,” Martin said in a release. “He's a high-character kid who comes from a good family. We all want to see him be successful.”
A voice message to Washpun was not immediately returned Monday.
