America is full of opportunity
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I would like to hear a presidential candidate extol the virtues of this wonderful country we live in today. I would like to hear him recount the ways America has come to the aid of people of the world who have suffered disaster at the hands of natural forces, earthquakes, typhoons, tsunamis, famine, drought, etc. I would like to hear him tell how the government, missionary organizations and many other citizen groups work together to aid those who suffer from natural disasters.
I would like to hear a presidential candidate tell of the times and ways that America, American citizens and organizations, have come to the aid of oppressed peoples and the threatened peoples of the world - the tons of food and clothing sent to the needy overseas.
And I would like to hear a presidential candidate brag about the fact that this is a land of the free and the home of the brave. That we are not hesitant to stand up and be counted. I would like to hear him say that in our land, everyone has the opportunity to realize and enjoy his full potential.
Life is not fair and it is full of pitfalls and hazards but America is full of opportunity. There is no guarantee of success.
