Help raise awareness of mobility issues

May is National Mobility Awareness Month. Not so long ago, a young man approached me and said, “Nice shoes. Use them much?” Not the most appropriate way for that guy to introduce himself to a person who uses a wheelchair for mobility.
Those were the first lines in an essay I submitted to www.MobilityAwarenessMonth.com. This contest is 90 percent community participation because only the top 10 percent of vote getters will have their essay considered. Three winners will receive a customized wheelchair van. The National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association sponsors the contest.
