Rents paid for soybean and corn crop land in Iowa rose by 18 percent from 2011 to 2012, according to a new survey.
The increase brought the average cash rent for land to grow corn and soybeans up $38 to $252 per acre, according to Iowa State University Extension and Outreach's rental rate survey.
The increase was the largest since the survey started in 1994, breaking the increase record of $30 per acre set in 2011.
Estimated rents for the highest quality one-third of farm land in each county rose by an average of 20 percent. The increase was attributed to the strong rise in corn and soybean prices since 2010 that continued in 2012.
