Open primaries would better reflect voters
The Gazette Opinion Staff

I have never voted in a primary election because to do so I must declare for either the Democratic or Republican party and I refuse to align myself with either.
With open primaries, where party alignment is not required, you would more than likely see improved voter turnout as independent and minor party voters make their preferences known. Part of the ballot could be a question of affiliation, listing all the current valid national parties, Democratic, Republican, Green, Libertarian, etc., as well as independents.
I feel that would give a more accurate reflection of the opinion of the majority of voters, not just a select few.
