Two fires strike North Liberty in 24 hours

The North Liberty fire department responded to two fires over the weekend.
According to a release, the North Liberty fire department responded to a house fire at roughly 7:30 p.m. located at 30 Forest hill PL N.E. with flames showing from the roof. The release said the department extinguished the fire within one hour, and the building was not occupied at the time of the blaze.
Though estimated damages are unknown, the department said the fire was started by a lightning strike. Two North Liberty Firefighters and one Coralville Firefighter were treated and released at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City for minor injuries.
The Coralville Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, Swisher Fire Department, Tiffin Fire Department, Oxford Fire Department, Iowa City Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Johnson County Sheriff's Department as well Alliant Energy and MidAmerican Energy assisted with the fire.
The North Liberty fire department responded to a second fire on Saturday at 10:30 p.m. to a single story home with heavy smoke and flames showing at 2661 Woodfield Lane N.E.
The release said the fire was extinguished within two hours with the help of the Coralville Fire Department, Solon Fire Department, Swisher Fire Department, Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Johnson County Sheriff's Department, North Liberty Police Department, and the Iowa State Patrol.
Though there were no injuries, the release said the home is a total loss.
