CEDAR RAPIDS -- Nick Niemeyer of Cedar Rapids Jefferson has received an assistant coaching award for softball by the Iowa Girls Coaches Association.Niemeyer, who assisted his father, Larry Niemeyer, for eight years at Jefferson, assumed head-coaching duties for nearly half the season when Larry was out for medical reasons.Jefferson finished 36-6 and won the MVC Valley Division championship. The J-Hawks advanced to the Class 5A regional finals.
