Alzheimer's Association to host a free workshop

When someone is diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, the first reaction is often shock or denial.

What does the diagnosis mean? What kinds of plans need to be made for everyone? What resources are available to help? The Alzheimer's Association is hosting an educational series called, “Living with Alzheimer's for Persons with Dementia” to help local residents process this diagnosis and prepare for the future. The 3-part program will be held on consecutive Mondays September 10, 17 and 24th from 4-6 p.m. in the Rex Eno Conference Room within the Human Service Campus building at 317 Seventh Avenue SE in Cedar Rapids.

This educational program provides answers to the questions that arise for people in the Early Stage of Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Hear from those directly affected and learn what you need to know, what you need to plan and what you can do at each point along the way. “Living with Alzheimer's for Persons with Dementia” will cover information for individuals and their families dealing with Early Stage Alzheimer's disease or a related dementia. Topics will include developing a care team, legal and financial planning, coping strategies, care and treatment options, communication and maximizing independence.

A light dinner will be provided at each training. There is no cost to attend, however registration is required and can be completed by calling 1.800.272.3900 or visiting alz.org/eci.
