TOWER TERRACE: The Iowa Department of Transportation new study concludes that a new interchange on I-380 at Tower Terrace Road is justified. It would help accommodate traffic growth, relieve congestion at Boyson Road and County Home Road interchanges and support expected economic development in already high-growth Cedar Rapids metro areas. Now, how to pay for it.

LOWEST CRIME RATE: Marion had the lowest crime rate per capital in Iowa during 2011, according to Neighborhood Scout, a research/data-mining company that analyzes crime reports. Marion had 14 crimes per 1,000 residents in 2011, a rate that has fallen annually since 2009.

STUDENT FITNESS; C.R. Jefferson High Schools is drawing statewide attention for its focus on physical education classes that teach lifelong fitness skills, and less time devoted to games and sports. More students are taking and passing the class these days.
