The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union wants to draw more students to the state volleyball tournament, and thinks this is one way to do it.Starting next year, the tournament will move up a day, beginning on a Tuesday and ending on a Friday. The tournament has traditionally ended on a Saturday."There's a combination of reasons," said IGHSAU executive director Mike Dick. "For one thing, we won't have to battle the Saturday college football scenario. Hopefully it can put a boost in our attendance. We hope to get more kids on a Friday than a Saturday."The proposal passed in the IGHSAU board of directors by a 5-1 vote.Dick believes that the championship-match times will be the same, 10 a.m. for Class 5A, noon for 4A, 2 p.m. for 3A, 4 p.m. for 2A, 6 p.m. for 1A."We're going to give it a try and see how it goes," he said. The tournament moves back to the U.S. Cellular Center next year after a two-year stay at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Cedar Rapids has hosted the tournament since 1991.
