Police should educate school personnel on weapons
The Gazette Opinion Staff
Jan. 28, 2013 11:43 am
I'm writing in regard to the recent school shootings. I haven't seen anything yet about any effort to educate school personnel on how they might recognize a weapon being brought into a school. Hand guns are quite easily concealed but the assault rifles, shotguns and other such weapons require larger concealment packages.
Police should put together a live presentation to show just what a concealed firearm might look like on a person entering a school. Attention should be given to other entrances besides the main doors (delivery entrance, etc.) being secure. Education is going to be as important as any form of gun control. Nothing we do is going to be 100 percent effective but maybe it can help stop one tragedy.
