CR residents deserve truth about casino

Other cities have considered a casino in the past and, in some cases, the elected city leaders were concerned enough about their citizens that they commissioned an independent unbiased report to show everyone the actual affects a casino would have on their city.

Unfortunately, that was not the case in Cedar Rapids. Instead they left that up to the investors who want to make the profits and the commercials they pay for. I have never considered commercials to be the best way to get the truth and I resent the elected leaders for not caring enough to get the truth for us.

Instead of that study, both the City Council and county supervisors met with the investors and entered into an agreement that will bring only the minimum allowed for the charities and will install a county supervisor and a City Council member on the Linn County Gaming Commission. That appears to me to be a bit of a conflict of interest and certainly not in the best interest of the citizens of Cedar Rapids.

The $206,000 we are spending for the special election should have been spent on the study and then everyone would have been able to look at what a casino would do without all the name calling and the doubt. We deserve facts and not clever commercials and until we get them, I say vote no on March 5 and remember this when they are up for re-election.
