Women grateful for help of LIFTS drivers, city
The Gazette Opinion Staff

On a recent Wednesday, the LIFTS bus picked up four ladies at the Meadows to go to Hy-Vee on Mount Vernon Road. Our manager, Ron, was skeptical in allowing us to go but since we needed supplies, we forged ahead.
We went to pick up a lonely lady, Emily, at the Seasons, but the bus needed to back up to the building, there is no turnaround. When backing the bus into the driveway, the right rear wheel slipped into the ditch. Our driver, Jerry, notified the LIFTS people.
A wonderful entourage of help arrived - Cedar Rapids police, the rescue unit, the firemen and snow removal vehicles. Their main concern was that we were safe. Sand and salt were applied to slippery snow areas.
Then another LIFTS bus arrived to which we were carefully escorted. Our driver, Brad, took us to Hy-Vee, then home to the Meadows.
We cannot say enough about the caring, helpful personnel who were there in the snowy cold weather. A big thanks to our LIFTS bus drivers and to the various agencies of Cedar Rapids for their kindness, helpfulness and professionalism. Cedar Rapids is Our Sunshine at all times.
