Disterhoft earns Gatorade award

IOWA CITY -- Add another elite award to a growing list for Ally Disterhoft.
Gatorade has announced the Iowa City West senior as its 2012-13 Iowa girls' basketball player of the year.
The award, which recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court, distinguishes Disterhoft as Iowa's best high school girls basketball player.
She previously was named Miss Iowa Basketball 2013 by the Iowa Newspaper Association.
The 6-foot senior guard averaged a state-high 26.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 2.2 assists per game while leading the Women of Troy to the Class 5A quarterfinals. West won the 4A championship last year.
Disterhoft scored 31 points in the quarterfinal loss to Mason City. She maintains a 4.0 GPA in the classroom and has signed with the University of Iowa.
