Mount Vernon hires Bruns as new boys' basketball coach

Mount Vernon athletics director Joe Wallace said in an e-mail Friday that the school will hire Wes Bruns as its next head boys' basketball coach, pending school board approval in early May.Bruns has been Mount Vernon's head sophomore coach. The 1986 Cedar Rapids Prairie graduate has prior head coaching experience at Cedar Rapids Xavier and Cedar Rapids LaSalle.He replaces Ed Timm, who is retiring. Timm led the Mustangs to the Class 2A state championship in 2012.
