Beloit edges Kernels, 7-6

BELOIT, Wis. - Nick Rickles hit a pair of home runs to help the Beloit Snappers outlast the Cedar Rapids Kernels in Midwest League baseball Wednesday night, 7-6. Beloit pulled within four games of the Kernels for first place in the Western Division with the victory.
The teams play again Thursday morning at 11.
Beloit built a 5-1 lead after four innings. The Kernels got a two-run home run from Jorge Polanco in the ninth, but Dalton Hicks popped out foul to end the game.
Starting pitcher Hudson Boyd (1-2) gave up seven runs to take the loss. No Kernels position player had more than one hit, though J.D. Williams did walk three times.
