DES MOINES - They wanted Waterloo Columbus. They'll get West Liberty instead."We were really looking forward to a rematch," Iowa City Regina's A.J. Adam said after his team dissected Oakland Riverside, 4-0, Thursday afternoon in a Class 1A state soccer tournament quarterfinal. "We're still going to come out hard against West Liberty, but we really wanted redemption."Here's the explanation behind Adam's comments. Regina (13-1) had its run of three straight state titles ended by Columbus in penalty kicks in last year's semifinals. The clubs were on the same side of the 1A bracket this year, too, but the Sailors were shocked by West Liberty, 2-1, Thursday. So it's a rematch, only one between Cedar Valley Conference rivals. Regina won the regular-season encounter, 2-1."We know the pace of state soccer," said Adam. "We know you have to come out fast. It's do or die. You've got to come out and make plays, or else you're going to get smoked."It was Oakland Riverside (12-6) getting smoked here. Adam fed Aaron Schmitz for a goal just 12 seconds into this one.He added a pair of his own for a 3-0 halftime edge. Tanner Ford added insult to injury."Right from the beginning, they were making bad touches," Schmitz said. "They gave us that first goal about 12 seconds in. That kind of got the mentality down. Then we just got some more, played hard the rest of the game. Stretched it out."
