Kane County tops Kernels in extras; Goodrum hurt

Jun. 2, 2013 7:54 pm
GENEVA, Ill. - Rock Shoulders walked with the bases loaded in the bottom of the 10th inning to give Kane County a 3-2 win Sunday afternoon over the Cedar Rapids Kernels.
Tyler Jones (3-2) took the loss for the Kernels (35-20), who conclude their four-game series with the Cougars Monday night.
Both Cedar Rapids runs came in the third inning on a Niko Goodrum double. The shortstop was then injured in a collision at home plate with Kane County catcher Willson Contreras that sent him briefly to the hospital.
Goodrum had to be taken from the field on a stretcher with his head immobilized. He was diagnosed with a concussion.
"Hey guys everything has checked out. I'm going to be just fine. Thanks for the well wishes!" he said on Twitter.
Outfielder Byron Buxton missed his second straight game with what Minneapolis Star-Tribune Minnesota Twins beat writer LaVelle Neal reported is a thumb injury.
