MARION -- Josh Evans ran an extremely fast mile Saturday at the Midwest Distance Festival at Lisle, Ill.Question is, where will it rank?Evans placed third in a stacked field of high school runners in 4:10.79. The mile is a little longer than the Iowa-sanctioned distance of 1,600 meters. Evans briefly held that all-time Iowa best, running 4:10.86 at the Drake Relays.Jason Thomas of West Des Moines Dowling eclipsed that with an effort of 4:10.14 at the state meet last month.IHSAA information director Bud Legg said he doubts Evans' time will be converted, and that the most likely scenario is that Evans time will rank No. 3 all-time in the now-defunct mile."We retired all yardage times and stay away from converted times," Legg e-mailed Monday night. "He will fit into the mile list at No. 3."Either way, a super time."Iowa went away from the mile and to the 1,600-meter distance in 1978.
