All-State girls' soccer teams

DES MOINES - There were reasons Cedar Rapids Xavier's girls' soccer team lost just one match this season (in penalty kicks) and rolled to an eighth consecutive state championship.Among them was simply having good players.Three Saints have been named first-team all-state in Class 2A by the Iowa High School Soccer Coaches Association. They are seniors Kayla Armstrong (midfield), Sammi Shepard (forward) and Sarah Chicchelly (goalkeeper).Senior midfielder Monica Busse was selected to the 2A second team and defender Lucy Martin named honorable mention.Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Linn-Mar placed two players each on the Class 3A first team: forwards Tory Harmon and Kaela Dickerman (Kennedy) and sophomores Jensen Sevening and Olivia Garcia (Linn-Mar). Iowa City West's Jayne Heinrich is the first-team 3A keeper.In Class 1A, senior forward Jessica Wooldridge of Center Point-Urbana was named to the first team. The Stormin' Pointers won their first-ever state tournament match last week.Wooldridge's freshman sister, Arika, was named to the 1A second team.Also a 1A first-team selection was Iowa City Regina junior midfielder Katie Wick. Her younger sister, Jenny, a freshman, was named to the 1A second team.Here are all of the all-state teams:
