Braley continues to fight for food stamps

Many people have called Democrats' support of the farm bill into question due to its significant cuts to nutrition assistance. In June, the Senate passed a version of the bill, with bipartisan support, that had substantially fewer cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Democratic Reps. Bruce Braley and Dave Loebsack of Iowa have introduced the Senate version of the bill into the House, though support from Republicans is unlikely.
Braley has long supported funding for SNAP and believes it is vital.
This year he requested that his colleagues in the House agree to increase funds for The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) to help food banks continue to serve the needs of their communities.
While 80 percent of the bill's funding goes to nutrition assistance, it also contains vital programs for disaster relief and conservation, and will reduce the deficit and create jobs. Braley has always supported food stamps and I know he will continue to work to maintain this vital program.
