Gesell suffers broken hand
Jul. 19, 2013 9:58 am
NORTH LIBERTY -- Iowa guard Mike Gesell suffered a broken left hand during his team's Prime Time League game Thursday night.
Associate sports information director Matt Weitzel confirmed the injury Friday morning and said Gesell will be out four to six weeks. Gesell has a cast on his left hand and over his index and middle fingers.
Gesell, an incoming sophomore, scored 22 points before leaving the game. He later tweeted about the injury, writing "Frustrated to the max!" and "everything happens for a reason."
Gesell started 30 games last year as a freshman and averaged 8.7 points per game. His status for the team's European trip next month is undetermined.
