Ask questions before voting to extend local-option sales tax

Before voting on extending the local-option sales tax ask yourself: Do you believe that all moneys collected will go to fixing the streets? Have they (Cedar Rapids city leaders) kept their word in the past?
Ask yourself another question: Why were our streets allowed to get into this condition in the first place?
Other (Linn County) communities involved in this (proposed) sales tax extension have announced that if passed, the revenue from the extension will be used in somewhat different ways. They won't have to use moneys such as this for the normal day-to-day operations but rather they could spread the wealth and use on numerous other projects.
Ten years from now, if this tax is allowed to pass and if all moneys collected were used to fix our streets, what other major infrastructures would then be allowed to degenerate? Will politicians again request an extension to fix up those infrastructures as well?
