CLASS 3A QUARTERFINALS
Sioux City Heelan (34-4) vs. Williamsburg (20-8)
When: 2 p.m., Wednesday
Where: Principal Park, Des Moines
Scouting Report: It's No. 1 against No. 8, as far as seeds go. But take into consideration No. 1 thought it had lost its substate final last week in extra innings to LeMars. Heelan got a reprieve from the Iowa High School Athletic Association when it ruled LeMars used an ineligible pitcher that forced a 7-0 forfeit win for Heelan. The Crusaders have plenty of horses in guys like Tyler Cropley (.393 average) and Brady Mayo (387). Conner Niles has scored 49 runs and stolen a 3A tournament-high 36 bases. Williamsburg must feel ready for anyone since it survived a strong Wamac Conference this season, including a double-header sweep of 2A quarterfinalist Mount Vernon. Cody Marine has been W'burg's top offensive guy, a senior hitting .477. The longer the Raiders hang around in this one, the better chance they'll have.
Today's Other Games Boone (23-10) vs. Davenport Assumption (24-15), noon Chariton (35-5) vs. Clear Lake (35-3), 6 p.m. Harlan (28-7) vs. Dallas Center-Grimes, 8 p.m.
