Wapsi odyssey

Any other August, canoeists wouldn't encounter a Cyclops in the Wapsipinicon River.
Next week, however, they just might stare him in the eye.
The mythic giant is just one of the characters rising from the river, swinging from a tree branch or frolicking on the banks as "The Wapsi Odyssey" unfolds around audience members paddling canoes.
The play, this summer's Wapsipinicon Theatre Festival show, begins at 1 p.m. Aug. 25 at the Old Iron Bridge on Nolen Avenue, west of Quasqueton. Over the course of three hours, the show meanders its way downstream to Quasqueton, where a party bus will take the audience back to their cars or to the after-party at Wee Willy's.
