Students in this community will benefit if we elect Jason Lewis to the Iowa City school board on Sept. 10. He is a candidate who is focusing on how children are educated. We need a board of education that works together through times of change and makes difficult decisions. Lewis is dedicated to unifying rather than dividing our growing and changing community.
He is a skilled communicator and genuine leader who will work well alongside six other board members in a progressive way that will move us forward. I have watched him as a parent in a leadership role at DPO (District Parent Organization) and board meetings, also recently in many settings as a candidate. He has engaged people's attention in a meaningful way.
Lewis true education his life work at the University of Iowa Carver College of Medicine. He is the director of the writing and humanities program there. He will be an asset to the board by returning conversations to excellence in education. Our priority in the Iowa City district should be to provide our children opportunity and choice as they journey through public school. Lewis will work toward that goal.
We must give students experience with critical thinking to become well-adjusted young people with both awareness and knowledge.
