IOWA CITY -- Mason City High School sophomore Makenzie Meyer disclosed on Twitter Saturday that she has committed to play women's basketball at the University of Iowa.
"It's official I'm gonna be a hawkeye! Thanks to everyone who has helped me achieve my dream especially my coaches, teammates, and family" -- @meyermak21
A 5-foot-7 guard Meyer averaged 9.8 points per game as a freshman, helping Mason City (21-4) advance to the Class 5A state semifinals.
She shot 50 percent from the floor, including 42 percent from 3-point range.
Meyer would join the Hawkeyes for the 2016-17 season.
