Poll of the Day - Chick-fil-A

Jul. 31, 2012 4:20 pm
Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum and others have dubbed Wednesday as Chick-fil-A appreciation day, hoping to counter all the fallout over remarks made by the company's CEO criticizing gay marriage, warning of God's wrath, etc:
Chick-fil-A's president and CEO, Dan T. Cathy, told the Biblical Recorder, a Baptist journal, in early July that the company was "very much supportive of the family - the biblical definition of the family unit." In a radio interview in June, Cathy said, "I think we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at him and say, 'We know better than you as to what constitutes a marriage.'"
I don't agree with him, and I don't like the sort of politics Chick-fil-A has used its money to finance. But I also think various politicians and mayors in Chicago, Boston, etc., who stepped in, knees jerking, to say they'd use his views as a pretext for government actions to block or banish his restaurants are being stupid and irresponsible.
The nation has moved a long way on this issue in recent years on its merits - fairness, justice, equal protection under the law, etc. Leave the big, hollow fire-and-brimstone threats and righteous grandstanding to the other side.
But if you feel like registering your opinion, one way or the other, through the free and open marketplace and its many choices, fine by me. Whether you're skippin' the chicken or gorging on golden fried appreciation tomorrow, please take the poll below.
It's delicious, although not very filling.
