A Mount Pleasant man will not be charged for fatally shooting his father Sept. 4 in Lockridge, Jefferson County Attorney Tim Dille said.
David Bittner, 46, was shot after kicking down the door to his daughter's house in Lockridge around 11 p.m. on Sept. 4, Dille said. Bittner's adult son and Bittner's estranged wife were in the house at the time. When Bittner, known to carry guns, reached behind his back, his son shot him, Dille said.
When officers arrived, they found Bittner unresponsive with a gunshot wound in his stomach. He later died at the Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield.
Dille, who reviewed witness statements and evidence showing Bittner had been warned to stop and leave, determined the shooting was justified.
