Little Hawks climb; West slips
Jeff Linder Oct. 14, 2013 2:00 pm
Iowa City High has moved in. Iowa City West has moved down.
The Little Hawks' 14-7 triumph over West on Friday caused a slight shakeup in the Class 4A rankings in The Gazette's football poll this week.
Only three unbeatens remain in 4A -- top-rated West Des Moines Dowling, No. 2 Pleasant Valley and No. 3 Ames.
City High (6-1) moved into the 4A list; the Little Hawks are tied for eighth. West slid four notches to No. 6.
All six of the No. 1 teams remain the same from last week. Sioux City Heelan is tops in 3A, as are Waukon (2A), Iowa City Regina (1A), BGM (Class A) and Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton (8-Man).
Regina won its 49th consecutive game Friday, 48-27 over then-No. 4 Wilton. The Beavers slipped to a tie for sixth.
If the Regals win out, they will break the state record for consecutive wins (55), set by Waterloo East. And they'll match East's 56-game unbeaten streak. Regina is home against Wapello this week.
