Fun Facts: Michigan-Iowa

Nov. 23, 2013 8:15 am
IOWA CITY -- It's too cold to sit outside and watch football. Or do anything else. But that's just me. If you could offer me low-cost, high-end housing in Malibu or Maui, I'd take it and even let you visit me one weekend a year.
On with the Fun Facts:
1. Michigan was a 10.5-point favorite over Iowa when the Golden Nugget in Las Vegas posted early lines for college games in June. Iowa opened as a 6-point favorite in most Nevada sports books on Monday.
2. Michigan is 6-7 on the road under Brady Hoke, and 10-17 on the road over the last six seasons.
3. The only other time Iowa and Michigan met on a Nov. 23 was in 1929. They tied, 0-0.
4. Michigan has allowed 31 quarterback sacks. Iowa has allowed nine.
5. This is only Michigan's second 11 a.m. (CT) game this season. It's Iowa's seventh.
6. Glen Mason is the color commentator for the Big Ten Network's telecast of this game. Ten years ago, Mason's Minnesota team led Michigan 28-7 going into the fourth quarter. The Wolverines rallied for a 38-35 win.
7. Before he became Michigan's coach, five of the eight seasons Hoke was a head coach (at Ball State and San Diego State) were losing seasons.
8. Michigan has rushed for 113 or more yards in every game except against Michigan State (minus-48) and Nebraska (minus-21).
9. Michigan has played 42 bowl games, but only one was in Arizona. Iowa's last two bowl games were in Arizona.
10. Ann Arbor was named for -- well, it's murky. Here's a site that tries to sift through it.
