The Gazette/Iowa Prep Sports boys' basketball poll

We're down to zero undefeated teams in Class 4A.

The remaining two suffered their first losses last week, as Bettendorf was shocked by Davenport Central and Dubuque Senior lost to Marian Central Catholic (Ill.) and Kentucky recruit Tyler Ulis, 68-61, at a tournament in Dubuque. Bettendorf's loss, by the way, ended the team's 36-game regular-season win streak.

Senior still remains atop 4A in this week's version of The Gazette/Iowa Prep Sports boys' basketball rankings. Bettendorf slides to third, behind new No. 2 Iowa City West.

Seven teams in last week's 4A rankings were beaten, though only one drops out (Cedar Rapids Kennedy). Sioux City East (13-3), which hasn't lost since 6-foot-11 center Ikenna Okwarabizie became eligible, is back in, at No. 8.

It's the same 10 teams ranked in 3A, though not in the same order as last week. Dubuque Wahlert goes from third to second and DeWitt Central fourth to third after previous No. 2 Harlan lost to 2A Carroll Kuemper.

The Cyclones (14-2) are fourth. Waverly-Shell Rock moves from 10th to seventh after an undefeated week that included a double-digit win on a neutral floor over Western Dubuque, which drops from eighth to 10th.

Mount Vernon (12-4) enters the 2A rankings, at 10th. The Mustangs (12-4) play in the 3A Wamac Conference and have not lost to a 2A team this season.

It's still undefeateds Western Christian (16-0) and New Hampton (15-0) at rock-solid first and second in the class. In Class 1A, it's the same 10 teams in the same order as last week.
