Flood forecast holds steady

May. 31, 2013 1:32 pm
So no big rains in Cedar River watershed, knock on wood, and the National Weather Service flood forecast is holding steady:
...FLOOD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING...
THE FLOOD WARNING CONTINUES FOR
THE CEDAR RIVER AT CEDAR RAPIDS.
* UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING.
* AT 10:00 AM FRIDAY THE STAGE WAS 17.1 FEET...AND RISING.
* FLOOD STAGE IS 12 FEET.
* MAJOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING AND IS FORECAST TO CONTINUE.
* FORECAST...RISE TO 19.9 FEET SUNDAY. FALL BELOW FLOOD STAGE
WEDNESDAY MORNING.
* IMPACT...AT 20 FEET...WATER REACHES THE BOTTOM OF THE BLAIRS FERRY
ROAD BRIDGE DECK.
Thunderstorms are still possible in the watershed today and tonight. But at this point, the ominous words "heavy rain" are not in the forecast. Although a flash flood watch remains in effect.
And now, in honor of these cautiously optimistic developments, and because it's Friday, please welcome The Hold Steady:
