DES MOINES -- Lisbon sophomore Carter Happel's chase for four straight state titles continues. Alburnett junior Hunter Washburn's is over.The pair of defending champions clashed in the 1A 132-pound quarterfinals on Friday afternoon. And after a scoreless first period, Happel defended a Washburn shot, sunk in an underhook and flipped him to his back. Washburn fought for a full minute, but Happel pinned him 3:58 into the match.Happel entered the tournament with a 51-0 record and has moved into the semifinals with two straight pins. He said he knew all year he would have to beat Washburn at some point in the state tournament, and he was glad the bracket brought them together early on."It will give me a lot of confidence to know I already got one of the toughest guys onto the other side of the bracket," he said.Washburn will move to the consolation bracket and face Audubon's Jake Mulford.
