KEOTA (25-1) vs. WEST LYON (21-5) What: Class 1A Semifinal When: 10:30 a.m. Where: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines Scouting Report: Hard to imagine someone being an underdog to an eighth-seeded team, but that's the case with Keota. The Eagles face a West Lyon team that ousted top-ranked, top-seeded Newell-Fonda, 72-57, in the quarterfinals. The Wildcats are members of the rugged Siouxland Conference, which features good Class 2A and 3A teams, including 3A state tourney qualifier MOC/Floyd Valley ... A strong fourth quarter helped Keota knock off Easton Valley, 56-47, in the quarterfinals. Kolton Greiner had 21 points for the Eagles, with Luke Lyle adding 10 points and 15 rebounds. Four guys scored in double figures for West Lyon against Newell-Fonda, including Brady Dicks' team-high 15 points. The Wildcats go 6-foot-6 and 6-5 up front. Four of Keota's starters are 6-2 or shorter.Other 1A Semifinal Belmond-Klemme (23-3) vs. Dunkerton (26-1), 12:15 p.m.
CASCADE (22-3) vs. WESTERN CHRISTIAN (25-0) What: Class 2A Semifinal When: 2 p.m. Where: Wells Fargo Arena, Des Moines Scouting Report: Cascade Coach Al Marshall was asked after his team's 56-40 quarterfinal win over South Hamilton about having to face the top-ranked unbeaten Wolfpack. "It's Monday," he said with a smile. "Give me a couple days, at least until tomorrow, to think about Western Christian." Marshall knows what his team is in for: a team with tremendous size in 6-foot-7 Taylor Feenstra (13.4 points per game, 12 rebounds per game) and 6-6 Josh VanLingen (16.5 ppg, 10.8 rpg). If that's not enough, Western Christian's top scorer, guard Kyle Fopma, returned from a knee injury in his team's 76-53 quarterfinal win over Albia ... Guard Haris Takes had a terrific game of 24 points and eight rebounds for Cascade in the quarterfinals. He'll be key, as will 6-6 sophomore center Devin Green, who got into foul trouble against South Hamilton. Coach Marshall has 694 wins in his 45-career win but is seeking his first state title. Western's Jim Eekhoff has 632 career wins in 32 seasons and three championships.Other 2A Semifinal West Fork (24-1) vs. Treynor (24-1), 3:45 p.m.Class 3A Semifinals Harlan (23-2) vs. Dubuque Wahlert (21-4), 6:35 p.m. Waverly-Shell Rock (22-3) vs. DeWitt Central (22-3), 8:15 p.m.
