To the editor:
On Nov. 10, my dad received a beautiful flower arrangement in red/white/blue from a friend who works pushing carts at a grocery store. My friend and her elderly mother have eaten dinner with dad a few times at Oaknoll. I saw my friend later as I got my groceries and asked why the beautiful flowers. She gave me a hug and here is her response:
I would not be here except for people like your father. My father was in a concentration camp in Germany. My German mother ended up married to a one arm Jew from a concentration camp. We can't thank your dad and others of his generation enough for all their sacrifices in lives, youth, and national home efforts.
Everyone from that generation should be thanked today, those who went to work in factories, scrimped at home, collected metal, and did without for the war effort for people across the seas.
