Marion Elaine Bennett, 89, Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2021. Per Marion's wishes, cremation has taken place. The family will greet friends from 3 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A memorial service will begin at 4 p.m at the funeral home on Saturday, conducted by Pastor John Albertson.
Marion was born on June 16, 1932, in Waterville, Iowa, the daughter of Theodore and Minnie (Leikvold) Jacobson. She graduated from High School and the University of Northern Iowa. On July 1, 1958, at East St. Creek Lutheran Church in Allamakee, Iowa, Marion was united in marriage to Doug Bennett. She was an English teacher at Burlington High School before owning and operating, Bennett's Home Center. Marion was a member of First United Methodist Church in Burlington and PEO. She was a very strong women, raising her two children on her own after her husband's passing. She enjoyed books, Shakespeare, history and staying up on current events. Marion enjoying cheering on the Iowa football and basketball teams. But most of all, she loved the time spent with her family.
She is survived and lovingly remembered by her daughter, Karen Knupp of Marion; son, Eric Bennett of Windermere, Fla.; daughter-in-law, Shirley Bennett of Windermere; granddaughter, Madison Knupp of Cedar Rapids; two grandsons, Joseph Knupp and Sam Bennett; granddaughter-in-law, Kelsey Bennett; sister-in-law, Char Jacobson; niece, Kris; and nephew, David.
Marion was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Doug Bennett; brother, Richard Jacobson.
