Joan Margulies Thaler, 95, of Cedar Rapids, formerly of Des Moines, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2021.
Joan Thaler was loved and respected by many in our community.
She is survived by her children, Nancy Margulies, Richard Margulies, Tom Margulies, Joe Thaler, Jaque Thaler and Robert Thaler; 12 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
She graduated from Drake University and later received a Masters in Social Work from the University of Iowa. She practiced as a psychiatric social worker at the Abbe Center in Cedar Rapids for over 30 years.
Joan raised funds for the library and Planned Parenthood and a host of other
non-profits. A prolific painter, her art work was included in many exhibits.
Charitable donations can be made in her memory in lieu of flowers. Donations can be made to the following charity: Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, in care of Sean Ulmer.
