Hotel Chauncey in Iowa City is now affiliated with Hilton, Coralville-based Hawkeye Hotels announced Tuesday.
The downtown hotel will maintain its Hotel Chauncey branding, but now guests can book through Hilton’s website and earn Hilton loyalty points.
The affiliation is through the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, which features independent hotels with strong connections to their local communities.
“The actual operations won’t change a whole lot,” said Ravi Patel, president of Hawkeye Hotels.
“Typically when hotels join these collections, Hilton wants the cultural fabric of that hotel to remain intact.”
Hotel Chauncey is the third hotel in the Tapestry Collection and first in Eastern Iowa. The other affiliated hotels are in Urbandale and West Des Moines.
The 50-room Hotel Chauncey opened in January 2020 in the downtown Chauncey high-rise, which also is home to a FilmScene movie theater, condominiums and office space.
Guests also have access to theGYM, an exercise facility in Iowa City larger than the typical hotel fitness center.
Hilton affiliation coming soon for hotelVetro
Hawkeye Hotels’ hotelVetro in Iowa City also will be affiliated with Hilton once its renovation is complete.
hotelVetro also will maintain its branding while allowing guests to book via Hilton’s website and use Hilton loyalty points.
Both Hotel Chauncey and hotelVetro did not have affiliations with national hotel chains before the Hilton contract.
“It definitely ups the exposure for the hotels,” Patel said.
“When we have people traveling in from all over the country to Eastern Iowa, Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, I think they’ll see these as some pretty interesting and unique hotels to be able to stay at.”
Both hotels having the Tapestry Collection affiliation will allow guests to use amenities at either property, Patel said.
The two Iowa City hotels join Hotel Fort Des Moines in Des Moines, which is part of the Curio Collection by Hilton, as Hawkeye Hotels’ three Iowa properties under Hilton collections.
"At some point, we will look to develop more in these various collections as well,“ Patel said.
