Aug. 25, 2010 1:54 pm
Iowa men's basketball coach Fran McCaffery will earn $1.1 million in base pay this season, which escalates to $1.35 million in year six, according to his contract, which was released by the University of Iowa today.
SourceMedia Group obtained a copy of McCaffery's contract via the Freedom of Information Act. McCaffery and Iowa Athletics Director Gary Barta signed the contract on Aug. 17, while Iowa President Sally Mason signed in on Aug. 23.
Among the many incentives in his six-year contract, McCaffery can earn $100,000 for winning either the Big Ten regular-season or tournament titles or taking the team to the Final Four. If Iowa wins the NCAA Championship, it's worth $150,000.
If McCaffery is fired without clause, the university must pay him half of his guaranteed compensation for each year remaining on his contract.
Other incentives include:
- Iowa paying Siena $240,000 for hiring McCaffery while under contract.
- McCaffery receives two automobiles, 12 basketball tickets to each game and round-trip transportation for immediate family members to road games. He also receives four Final Four tickets.
- McCaffery receives six home football season tickets and six tickets to Iowa's bowl game for he and his family.
