LumberKings take nightcap, 5-1

Clinton, IA – The Clinton LumberKings took the second game of a DH from the Cedar Rapids Kernels by the score of 5-1 and in doing so, snapped the Kernels winning streak at seven games. Kalian Sams hit a three run homer in the fourth inning and added another RBI on a bases-loaded groundout in the sixth.

Casey Haerther went 1-3 to extend his hitting streak to 13 games. Mike Trout went 1-2 with a stolen base and scored the Kernels only run on a sacrifice fly by Luis Jimenez. Clinton starter Jimmy Gillheeney (2-3) held the Kernels to a run on four hits and struck out five over six innings for the win.

Kernels starter Tyler Skaggs (1-2) allowed four runs on five hits, walked one and struck out eight over four innings. Tyler Kehrer walked two and struck out three over two innings of relief.
