It is not often that a politician serves one county for 39 years and you don't find some dirt, a little scandal or people completely against him or her.
Michael Stevenson served Linn County for 39 years and I have never heard anyone say a bad word against him. He was always trying to make the system easier for the end user. He has served the people of Linn County with honor, dignity, pride and, above all, respect.
He was always willing to lend a hand and find a solution to any problem. He would treat all people in a way that made you feel he truly cared about you. He was tough when needed but kind by nature.
He always greeted you with a smile and a handshake and had time for a good story or to see how your family was doing.
He was a rock during the flood of 2008, working countless hours to make sure his office still served the people of Linn County during much adversity. He felt our grief and worked to find solutions for others who suffered.
I wish Mike well in his retirement and encourage others to do the same. My grandfather told me “A good man gets a well-deserved rest when his work is done.” Your work is done Mike, enjoy your rest.
