Cut a better deal for taxpayers

The Iowa Legislature is working on commercial property tax relief but why stop there. Let's give every taxpayer a break. The personal property taxes on my home are almost twice as much as I paid on a comparable home in Indiana.
Two years ago, the voters in Indiana passed a constitutional amendment to their state constitution limiting the tax rate on residential property to a maximum of 1 percent of assessed evaluation; it drew 80 percent approval. This hurt some school districts but they all learned how to prioritize and budget better.
Here in Iowa, I hear how great our education system has been and that one reason taxes are so high. From what I'm reading about Iowa schools, they are not near as good as they used to be. Maybe money isn't the problem. If schools can't use our tax dollars effectively, maybe the schools shouldn't get all that money. Let's give the taxpayer a better deal.
