If you're poor, vote Democratic

Except for the last couple of months of the Bush administration and the first few months of Obama's administration, when vast amounts of debt was incurred to keep the economy from going off a cliff, nearly all of the national debt was incurred under three presidents: Reagan, Bush I and Bush II. Republicans.
In determining how to vote, there are issues such as abortion, homosexuality, gun control, health care, education, etc., which attract some people to vote for a political party or person. But the main issue for voting, for most, is their pocketbook.
In that regard, after following in politics for more than 60 years, the only thing I've been able to figure out is to help the rich, vote Republican. To help the poor, vote Democrat.
Although each party insists they work for the middle class, movement within, or in or out, of the middle class pretty much depends on luck or effort, not politics. Since I'll be voting soon, please let me know whether any of the above is in error.
